Software Development Tim has over 20 years experience designing, coding, testing and maintaining software. Listed below are sample Visual Basic based applications that use technologies such as XML, ODBC, and ADO.NET to successfully integrate with MS SQL server, Access, Word and Excel. Technologies: VB.NET, MS-Access, Crystal Reports, ADO.NET, XML, Windows Installer A large ocean transportation company required an application that engineers could use to produce engine room operator logs and shift hand-over reports. The application had to be simple and intuitive to use without leaving out critical functionality such as searching, access management, report generation, and spell checking. Working closely with end users Tim designed and implemented a new Watch log application that met all user requirements and is now successfully being used onboard 33 major vessels. Watch log was developed using Visual Studio .NET, uses MS-Access for data storage, the MS-Word spell checker, and has built-in reporting via Crystal Reports. Configuration settings are stored within an XML data file and installation is easily achieved using the Windows installer. Click here or on the image for full size display in a separate window.
Technologies: Visual Basic, Crystal, MS-SQL Server, ODBC, MS-Word The Telehealth Interoperability Lab of the Alberta Research Council required an application to support the development of interoperability standards and testing of vendor systems for compliance to the standards. Tim designed and implemented a visual basic application that was used to manage requirements, test procedures, test results and testing contracts within a Microsoft SQL server database. The application could automatically extract requirement statements from an MS-Word document and organize them in a tree-like fashion for ease of navigation. The Conformance Testing Tool also used Crystal Reports to generate test reports. Supplier Bid Generation and Analysis System Technologies: Visual Basic, SQR, MS-SQL Server, MS-Excel A large multinational forestry company required a system that could be used to generate pricing sheets for suppliers to use in a competitive bid process. Tim implemented a visual basic application that extracted item information from a SQL server based inventory system, generated formatted excel based pricing sheets for suppliers, then incorporated completed pricing sheets from the winning supplier into the purchasing system as a standing offer purchase order. The system was successfully deployed in 2001 and is still widely used today.
