  • Oil and Gas

  • Manufacturing

  • Power Generation

  • Aviation

  • Transportation and

  • Forestry

In addition, Tim has been utilized on a part-time/as needed basis to provide assistance with Actuate /BIRT report creation and Maximo KPI creation based upon SMRP guidelines.

Refer to the project summaries below or contact Tim for more information.

Maximo® 6 to 7 Upgrade and re-architecture - Oil and Gas Sector

Technologies: IBM Maximo for  Oil and Gas, IBM Maximo Calibration, IBM Maximo Mobile Work Manager, IBM Maximo Scheduler, MIF, Websphere, Oracle

Tim was a key technical resource for a recent upgrade from Maximo 6.2.6 to 7.1.1.7.  The upgrade was successfully completed on-time and under budget. His responsibilities included:

  • Resolution of  database integrity issues and utilization of IBM upgrade scripts to migrate data from 6.2.6. to 7.1.1.7,

  • Re-architect the host environment from a UNIX platform to a Windows VM clustered environment,

  • Install development, test, training and production environments,

  • Upgrade and test Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) interfaces to financial system,

  • Upgrade custom Java code and

  • Setup BIRT report development environment.

Maximo® 6 to 7 Upgrade and Support - Utility Sector

Technologies: Maximo 7.1.1.5, BIRT, Websphere, Oracle

Tim provided part time technical expertise in the following areas:

  • Data cleanup and location hierarchy re-configuration,

  • Implementation of SMRP Key Performance Indicators within Maximo and

  • BIRT report development.

Maximo 4 to 6 Upgrade - Oil and Gas Sector

Technologies: Maximo 6.2.4 Oil and Gas, Maximo Mobile, MEA, Maximo 4.1.1, Actuate 8, SQR, Oracle, VBA

An international oil and gas company upgraded and expanded the use of Maximo throughout their North American operations.  Tim was a key member of the upgrade project team and also provided support for existing Maximo operations.  His responsibilities included:

  • Design and implementation of Maximo (e.g. Operating locations, equipment, systems, routes, PMs) to support pipeline and well site maintenance such as right-of-way inspections, pigging and batching,

  • Configuration and support of the Maximo Enterprise Adapter (MEA),

  • Maximo Mobile Work Manager (with Calibration) Installation and Configuration,

  • Actuate report development and

  • Phase-out of legacy applications with extract, conversion and population of Maximo.

Maximo Implementation - Manufacturing Sector

Technologies: Maximo 6.2.2, Actuate 8, MS-SQL Server, VBA

A pipeline manufacturer utilized Tim as their primary resource for configuration of a new Maximo 6.1 (MXES) installation. Tim provided the client with an implementation "roadmap", conducted data population and provided assistance to new users. Some of tasks completed included the following.

  • Design of plant location hierarchy,

  • Import of companies, locations and assets from Excel work sheets, and

  • Configuration of organizations, asset classes, failure codes, hazards, precautions, chart of accounts, security groups, etc.

Maximo Upgrade Site Assessment and Cost Estimation- Aviation Sector

Technologies: Maximo 4.1.1, SQR, SQL Server

Tim performed a site assessment for a large international airport in preparation for a Maximo upgrade.  His report provided a detailed analysis of the current functional usage, system configuration,  system interfaces and reporting configuration.

This information was then used to provide upgrade options and cost estimates.

Maximo Implementation - Wind Power Generation, Biomass Power Generation

Technologies: Maximo 5.2, Actuate 7, MS-SQL Server, MS-Access, VBA

Tim implemented Maximo within the wind and biomass business units of a leading company in the Green Power Industry. During this project he successfully completed the following activities.

  • Installed and configured multi-site/multi-organization production and development environments,

  • implemented equipment and location breakdown structures for a biomass (wood chip) power plant and for over 100 turbines located in multiple wind farms,

  • extracted, converted and loaded historical inventory, work order and equipment data from legacy MS-Access databases,

  • improved the layout of Maximo screens and reports,

  • developed new Actuate and e-spreadsheet reports and forms to support inventory, purchasing and maintenance processes, and

  • provided on-site and remote training and support.

Maximo Enhancement - US National Parks Service (Fleet)

Technologies: Maximo 4.1.1, Maximo Developers Kit, Maximo DVL, SQR, Oracle

Tim developed a suite of custom Maximo applications to support lifecycle management of the NPS vehicle fleet.   Custom applications were developed for vehicle replacement analysis, warranty management, utilization/availability tracking and fuel usage.

The Maximo Developers kit and DVL products were also utilized to integrate these applications with other Maximo applications.

Maximo Renewal - Transportation Sector

Technologies: Maximo 4.1, Maximo Integration Gateway, Oracle Financials, Oracle RDBMS, Citrix, SQR, VB.NET, PL/SQL, XML

A large ocean transportation company uses Maximo to manage inventory, vessel refit projects and regular maintenance activities for 33 vessels and numerous terminal facilities.  In 2004 Tim was selected to provide Maximo technical expertise as part of a multiphase Maximo enhancement project.  During this 16 month project he worked closely with end-users to:

  • resolve integration issues between Maximo and Oracle Financials,

  • improve the layout of Maximo screens and reports,

  • develop new reports to improve the inventory backorder and pick-list generation processes,

  • analyze and implement recommendations in the areas of security,

  • design and implement software to extract XML based documents in support of the vessel refit process.

Tim also developed a VB.NET based operator log and shift hand-over reporting application that has been successfully deployed to 33 major vessels within the fleet.

Maximo Deployment - Forestry Sector

Technologies: Maximo 4.1, MS-SQL Server, Citrix, SQR, Visual Basic

A large international forestry company uses Maximo to manage maintenance, inventory and purchasing at dozens of locations throughout North America. In 2000, Tim was selected to assist with the successful rollout of Maximo to 13 mills and timberlands.

Over a 14 month period, his responsibilities included:

  • detailed deployment planning for each site,

  • legacy data conversion and population of the site specific Maximo database,

  • development of inventory and purchasing reports; and

  • end-user training and mentoring.

In addition, Tim development a centralized bid generation and analysis system, and wrote data extraction routines to support a data warehouse.

Maximo Implementation - Canadian Coast Guard

Technologies: Maximo 4.1, Oracle Replication, Oracle RDBMS, SQR

In 1998 MacDonald Dettwiler was selected to implement a national Maintenance Information Management System (MIMS) for the Canadian Coast Guard.  This Oracle/Maximo based system used a “thin client” Citrix metaframe solution for shore based users and a standard “thick client” implementation onboard CCG vessels.  When a vessel was able to connect to the wide area network, Oracle replication was used to synchronize data between the shore and vessel databases.

Tim was the Maximo technical lead for MacDonald Dettwiler and was responsible for the configuration and customization of the bilingual Maximo application, implementation of the Oracle replication software and development of SQR reports.  Tim also led several Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions, performed use case analysis and conducted site visits to document existing maintenance, inventory, and purchasing processes.  He was the primary author or a significant contributor to the Systems Engineering Management Plan, Implementation Plan, Architecture Design Document, Business Procedures, Installation Guide, Database Tuning Guide and User Guide.
